Description
The Clock Tower and Lock Up, located at the junction of Fenstanton High Street and Hilton Road, is a late 17th-century structure with a square plan and two storeys. It is built of red brick featuring yellow brick rusticated quoins and an ashlar plinth. The roof is a restored hipped slate design, topped with a wooden louvred bell turret that has round arches on each face, crowned by a weather vane. A dentil brick eaves cornice adds detail to the structure. There are two plank doors on the north and south sides, along with one sealed window on the first floor and one fixed light with glazing bars set in a segmental arch. The bell, cast by Thomas Norris in either 1660 or 1666, is a notable feature, as is the clock with an octagonal face on the east wall, which originally came from Conington Hall in Cambridgeshire.
