Description
Sluice Cottage, originally a farmhouse from the late 16th century, features a hall range with a cross-wing to the southwest and an outshut in the northwest angle. The building is timber framed and plastered, with painted brick and plain tile roofs. A large red brick stack is located at the junction with the cross-wing, featuring four square-sectioned shafts that are united at their heads by a round arch, along with moulded brick string courses. The southeast elevation has two storeys with garrets, including one small and one three-light casement window on the first floor, one three-light casement window on the ground floor, and two half-glazed doors. Inside, there is a sealed inglenook hearth, moulded ceiling beams at both floor levels of the cross-wing, and arch braces supporting the collars of the side purlin roof.
