Description

Thorns Gate Cottage is a timber-framed and plastered farmhouse, dating from the 17th century, located on Hamerton Road, Alconbury Weston. The house originally comprised a hall and crosswing. A main range has been extended to create a hay barn, with a weatherboard gable facing west. The house features a cross-passage to the east of the hall, and a crosswing with a south-facing jetty, and a large soft-red brick side stack incorporating a baking oven. The roof is covered in plain tiles, with a hipped roof to the west and to the north of the crosswing. Windows include four three-light casements with rectangular quarries in iron frames, three at the first floor and several at ground floor. A boarded door is present. Inside, the cottage includes two inglenook hearths and chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops.
