Description
Manor House Farmhouse is a house that dates from the late 16th century and was built in 1672. The kitchen wing, located on the north side, is from the late 16th century and is likely timber-framed, plaster rendered, and covered with long straw thatch. It features a side stack on the west wall, which is now internal, and consists of two bays with one storey.
The main range, built in 1672, is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and stands on a plinth. It has a plain tiled roof with shaped gable end parapets supported by moulded brick kneelers. The rear wall has a projecting side stack that is offset and moulded, featuring the date 1672 and the initials R. and A.S. The layout includes two ground floor rooms, a stair turret at the rear, and the kitchen wing at the north end. The house has two storeys and an attic, with the front elevation divided into panels by pilaster strips and plat bands.
On the first floor, there are three windows, including one cross frame casement, one blocked window opening, and a later hung sash, all featuring gauged brick flat arches. The ground floor has two similar arches leading to partly blocked window openings and a doorway, while the window openings in the gable ends are also blocked. The addition to the west of the kitchen wing is constructed of brick and long straw thatch, consisting of one bay and a single storey, with a bay window in the front wall and rebuilt brickwork in the end wall.
Inside, there is an open well staircase with eight flights, featuring closed strong square newels with lobed finials and drops, as well as two turned balusters for each flight and a half baluster for the respond. The kitchen wing contains a 16th-century inglenook fireplace, which, although blocked, has chamfered limestone jambs.
