Description
TL 2886-2986 TL 2885-2985 RAMSEY HIGH STREET 11/18 12/18 Nos 110 to 118 (even) GV II
Alms houses dated 1839 on stone plaque with crest of Fellowes family. Symmetrical plan. Two storey, central block with projecting central bay, flanked by 2 single-storey wings to east and west. Reused abbey stone with limestone dressings to window and door architraves, copings to gables, and pseudo buttresses. Plain tile roofs. Main 2-storey range has kneed parapet gables and end stacks with diagonal brick shafts and 2 similar symmetrical ridge stacks. Central gabled bay has 6-light mullioned and transomed first floor casement window above moulded string with inset date plaque. Four pseudo buttresses flank central 3-light, mullioned window and 2 panelled doors each with 4 centred arches. Symmetrical arrangement of mullioned casement windows flank closed, gabled porches to east and wst of central bay. Single storey wings identical, with kneed parapet gables and stone finials, 3-light mullioned windows, and side entrances with panelled doors in 4 centred arches. The alms houses and school, abbey gate house, the church form one of the finest group of buildings around the Abbey Green in the country.
