Description

This is a mid-18th century house with later 19th and 20th century additions, located in Buckden. The original house is arranged in a T-shape, with a service wing to the south and an east-west crosswing. It is constructed of red brick, with tiled roofs, tumbled gable ends to the crosswing and projecting end stacks to both wings. The house has two storeys and an attic. The east elevation of the service wing has four later sash windows with flush wooden frames, and a segmental arch at ground floor level which now contains a later sash window. The west elevation features two original bell-shaped rainwater heads. The east gable of the crosswing has two later sash windows and one full-length casement. A two-storey red brick range was added to the north in 1913. The crosswing’s interior comprises two bays and a narrower stairbay, and contains a mid-18th century staircase with two flights, a landing, closed string, and square newel posts. An early 19th century back staircase is found in the south range.
