Description
Home Farmhouse is a mid to late 16th century farmhouse with its gable end facing the road, originally featuring a jettied design. There is a late 17th or early 18th century kitchen wing to the east. The main range is timber-framed and plaster rendered, with the ground floor built in brick. It has a steeply pitched roof covered with 19th century slates and a ridge stack on the north side. The building is two storeys high and has two horizontal sliding sash windows at the gable end. The kitchen wing, made of brick, dates from the late 17th or early 18th century and has a plain tiled roof with an end stack. This wing is one storey with attics, featuring one gabled dormer and one casement window on the ground floor, with the entry located in the wing.
Inside, the main range consists of three bays, including a smaller bay to the north of the stack. The floor framing is exposed in the centre bay, showcasing intersecting main beams that are chamfered and stopped, with joists laid flat and also chamfered. There is a large inglenook fireplace and a closed truss between the centre bay and the southern bay. A 19th century partition and two staircases are located on the west side of the main range. The bedroom above the centre bay includes a fireplace with an early 19th century cast iron grate featuring a ducks nest design and the Prince of Wales feathers. The entry was originally located opposite the stack from the east.
