Description
44 Hatchet Lane is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, featuring a hall and a two-bayed cross-wing. The cross-wing has a 17th-century inserted floor and a brick stack in the hall. The building stands two storeys high, with roughcast render applied to the timber-frame. It has a plain tile roof, adorned with a 17th-century egg and dart moulded barge-board on the gable of the cross-wing. There is a ridge stack and three modern casement windows of varying sizes on both floors. The entrance features a deeply moulded architrave surrounding a modern plank door, which is topped with a flat canopy supported by shaped brackets. Inside, the farmhouse includes stop-chamfered ceiling beams and a brick inglenook hearth. The timber-frame is exposed, and there are cambered tie beams. The cross-wing has a side purlin roof with wind braces, and the soffit of the central tie beam is painted with a fleur-de-lys design in red on a green background.
