Description
Nos 11 and 12 in Denton are a cottage that was originally two separate cottages. They date from the early 17th century and have undergone alterations and additions in the 18th and 19th centuries, with further renovations in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed and roughcast, with areas of painted replacement brick featuring a dentil brick cornice. It has a long straw thatched roof that is half hipped on the left side. There are red brick and gault brick stacks at both ends and a ridge stack. The cottage is one storey with an attic and originally had a three-unit plan, which has been extended by one bay to the right. The exterior includes two boarded doors with wrought iron strap hinges set in segmental brick arches, and three replacement casement windows also in similar arches, along with a small ground floor window to the left. There are two eyebrow dormer windows on the roof. Inside, the cottage features stop-chamfered ceiling beams, and the open hearth has been modified to create an entrance to an inner room.
