Description
50 High Street in Somersham is a 19th-century building made of colour-washed brick and topped with a slate roof. It has a square plan with stacks at both ends.
The front of the building is flat and features three hung sash windows with glazing bars and cambered arches on the first floor. On the ground floor, there is one similar window alongside a mid-20th century shop front with glazing bars. To the right, there is a recessed wing that includes a semi-circular headed hung sash window above a carriageway entry with timber doors. The original structure has been extended across the entire rear, likely in the mid-19th century, resulting in an asymmetrical roof profile. The back has two eight-over-eight top-hung sash windows, a 20th-century casement window on the ground floor, and additional 20th-century casement windows on the first floor. There is also a small single-storey cross-wing added in the 20th century at the south corner, featuring a reused sash window and a modern door. The south-eastern gable has a small semi-circular headed arch window at the upper level.
Inside, the ground floor includes a lounge, study, dining room, and kitchen, all accessed from a central hallway. Fireplaces are present in the lounge, study, and dining room, and the study retains a herringbone-patterned glazed brick floor. A staircase at the south end of the hall leads down to a basement and up to the first floor, which contains six bedrooms and a bathroom.
