Description
No. 4 Ingles Lane is a house that dates back to the 17th century or possibly earlier. It features a pebble-dash timber frame and/or cob construction, topped with a thatched roof that has gabled ends. The house has brick stacks located at the axial and gable ends.
The layout consists of three rooms: the left and center rooms are heated by back-to-back fireplaces in the axial stack, with an entrance lobby in front. The right-hand room has a gable end stack. The house is one storey with an attic and has an asymmetrical three-window west front. To the left of the center, there is a panelled and glazed door, flanked by canted bay windows on either side. The left side features a two-light casement window with glazing bars. There are also two smaller attic casement windows at the center and left, set in eyebrow half-dormers.
Inside, all ground floor rooms have chamfered axial beams, with the center and left rooms displaying cyma stops. The interior includes 18th and 19th century panelled doors and 19th century chimneypieces, with a large fireplace in the left room. The chambers are ceiled but reveal exposed purlins, wall-plates, and tie-beams in the partition between the center and right chambers.
