Description
Doddington Hall Coach House and Stables is a building that was formerly the vicarage, dated 'GE Walker 1872' on a stone plaque in the south wall, designed by W Smith (1817-1891). It is constructed of gault brick with limestone dressings and features plain tile roofs with patterned ridge tiles. The building is two storeys high with attics and is designed in the Tudor-Gothic style, featuring a cross-gabled plan with two wings that project from the east and west elevations. It has four side stacks and a ridge stack, with stone copings to the gables that include finials, stone bands, and a plinth.
The west elevation consists of three 'bays' and has a lower service range to the north that is attached to the coach house and stables, which are positioned at right angles. The central main entrance features a boarded and panelled door set within a two-centred arch with shafted jambs, and is sheltered by a gabled wooden open porch. The windows are hung sashes with one, two, and three trefoiled-lancet-lights, and there is a two-storey bay window on the right side topped with a pent roof. On the east elevation, there is an oriel window at the first floor and a fine three-light staircase window with stained glass. Inside, original details include a closed string staircase and a panelled and glazed wooden hall screen.
