Description

The remains of the White Cross are located in the garden of Number 15, known as Peckover House, in Wisbech. This is a medieval shaft of a cross made from Barnack stone, featuring chamfered edges and stopped with weathered carvings. It is mounted on a modern plinth that is inscribed with the words 'White Cross of the Low'. The remains were dredged from the river and originally stood at The Low until the Reformation. This information is referenced in Gardiner's "History of Wisbech" from 1898 and in the Victoria County History of Cambridgeshire.
