Description
Rear range number 46, located on Bridge Street in Wisbech, is a Grade II listed building. This structure consists of two shops that were originally timber-framed and jettied towards the street, likely dating from the late 16th century or earlier. The building features late 17th century brick gables, a roof, and a rear wing. The walls are rendered, and it has a steeply pitched slated roof supported by butt-purlins, spanning four bays. There is a diagonal red brick chimney stack on the left side. The building has two storeys, although the attic floor has been removed.
On the first floor, there are three casement windows. The shop front of No. 7 includes late 19th century shop windows flanking a central door, while No. 8 has 20th century windows. The rear wing has been cased in brick and raised to three storeys in the early 19th century, featuring an architraved shop window. Inside No. 8, there are fine carved moulded ceiling beams and stop-moulded floor joists, along with exposed roof trusses.
