Description
Nos. 42, 42A, and 43 Market Place are shops dating from the early to mid 18th century that have been altered. They are built of local brown brick and rendered, topped with a red pantile roof. The buildings feature shallow parapet gables, end stacks, and a central ridge stack made of local red brick. They stand two storeys high with attics, which include three flat-roofed attic windows. The stone copings on the parapet and a stone cornice add to the architectural detail. The façades have four twelve-paned hung sash windows that are recessed in cambered gauged brick arches with stone cills. At the ground floor, there are two late 19th-century shops. Inside No. 42, there is a large chamfered ceiling beam.
