Description
22 and 22A St Mary's Street are a pair of early 19th century brick houses built with Haddenham bricks, with No 22A now painted. They are two storeys high and feature a three-window range with double-hung sashes that have glazing bars, set in plain reveals. No 22 has a four-panel door with a plain rectangular fanlight, while No 22A has a six-panel double door with the upper panels glazed. The doorcases are made of wood and include pilasters and cornices. Both houses have slate roofs. They are part of a small, well-proportioned group of houses set back from the buildings at the east end of St Mary's Street, specifically from No 20.
Together with Nos 20, 24 to 30 (even), 34, 36, 36A, 38, and 40 to 60 (even), these houses form a group with Nos 13 to 29 (odd) and 29A, Parson's Almshouses, and Nos 1 to 5 (odd) Downham Road. They also form a group with No 20 Church Lane and the Parish Church of St Mary.
