Description
The Chantry is an 18th-century brick house built with local bricks, featuring a decorative wooden eaves cornice with modillions. It has two storeys and attics. The central section of the front facade slightly protrudes and is topped with a modillion pediment. A red brick band runs between the two storeys, and the building has five window ranges with double-hung sash windows that include glazing bars, all set in flush cased frames. The windows are adorned with red brick gauged arches. On the west end, there are two window ranges, and a two-storey wing extends to the rear, also with two window ranges. The central entrance features a doorway with a domed hood supported by enriched console brackets. The roof is covered with old Cambridgeshire tiles, has stopped gables, and includes two flat-headed dormers.
The Chantry, along with the Walls and Gates to The Chantry, No 3, and the wall and railings to No 3, form a group with the Bishop's Palace, the College, and The Cathedral of The Holy Trinity.
