Description

Rayners Cottage is an early 16th-century farmhouse. It is timber-framed and plastered with a thatched roof. Originally a three-unit plan building, it now has one storey and an attic. It features a ridge stack with grouped diagonal shafts and a rear stack. Five casement dormer windows are visible on the roof, along with five ground floor casement windows. A modern closed porch now stands where the original entrance was located, and a boarded door is present. Inside, late 17th or early 18th-century hearths incorporate a reused original mantel beam. The internal structure includes substantial wall and floor frames, and a side purlin roof with wind braces.
