Description
Burwell House, formerly the vicarage, dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century and has been extended at the rear and to the side in the 19th century. The house is constructed of red brick with rendered sections, and features gault brick in the 19th-century parts. It has a hipped pantiled roof with a ridge stack and gault brick in the upper courses. Originally a single pile in an L-plan, it now includes 19th-century extensions in the angle and on the north side. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a plat band between the storeys. The front elevation was altered in the late 19th century or early 20th century, featuring two first-floor flush frame hung sashes in open boxing, with a third central window that has been blocked. There are two similar ground floor windows on either side of the now-blocked central doorway, which is made of 19th-century gault brick. A two-storey porch is located in the south wall. The interior has been much altered, but retains corner fireplaces with header arches. The room at the south end on the front originally had an inglenook.
