Description

Church Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 17th century, 18th century, and early 19th century. It is constructed from local red and yellow brick in both English and Flemish bond, similar to Manor Farmhouse in Wentworth, with early 19th century larger and uniform grey brick in Flemish bond on the front wall. The house features a plain tiled hipped roof on the front range, with side stacks made of similar grey gault brick that have diagonally set shafts.

The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical front facade with three flush frame casements. The ground floor has two cross frame casements with cambered arches, which flank a central doorway. At the rear, there is a service wing that showcases 17th and 18th century brickwork and has a plain tiled roof. The gable end to the west may be slightly later and could indicate a fireplace addition, as evidenced by a straight joint in the brickwork. This gable has a parapet with flush end stacks and is also two storeys tall. While the north side has modern windows, one window retains part of its original glazing.

On the south side, there is an 18th century extension to the kitchen made of gault brick, featuring a half hipped, plain tiled roof and comprising one storey with an attic. Inside, the early 19th century front range has a symmetrical room plan, and there is a sunken dairy on the north side accessible from the rear wing. The service wing includes an inglenook hearth added at the west end and features a chamfered main beam. The south side addition has a ladder staircase and exposed ceiling joists.
