Description
This is a house with a late medieval open hall, significantly altered in the 16th century with the addition of an inserted stack and a two-story parlour extension to the southwest. A northeast bay, potentially an original service area, was rebuilt in the late 17th or early 18th century. The house features local red brick gable stacks, also dating to the late 17th or early 18th century, along with an internal stack partially rebuilt in similar red brick. The timber frame is plastered, and the roof is half-hipped and covered with slate. The building is one story with an attic, displaying two gabled dormer windows, two garden casement windows, and one four-light casement window. A six-panelled and glazed door leads into the interior. The timber frame of the medieval hall survives in three walls, revealing a nearly complete smoke-blackened collar rafter roof. The wall and floor frames of the 16th-century addition are exposed, with a wide cross-passage located behind the inserted stack. Floors in the hall and service rooms were likely inserted in the late 17th or 18th century. The house was formerly situated on the village green before enclosure.
