Description
Isinglass Cottage and Stable is a grooms cottage with a stable at the rear, built in 1895 for H. McCalmont. It features red gauged brick and plain tile roofs. The cottage facade includes a central shaped gable with a canted bay window. The main entrance is on the left side, with a half-glazed panelled door and a verandah, while there is a hipped wing on the right. A rear stack has three tall shafts. The stable facade faces the yard and has shaped parapet gables with a round window. To the left of the stable door, there is a sixteen-paned hung sash window with an over light, and an ogee-headed ventilation louvre on the ridge. A limestone plaque commemorates Isinglass' achievements in racing from 1892 to 1895. The stable was specifically built for the racehorse, J.P. Hore, Cheveley Estate, in 1899.
