Description
Merton Cottage is a building dating from around 1820, constructed of grey gault brick. The exterior underwent significant alterations in the late 19th century when two 2-storey bay windows were added, obscuring the original 3-bay arcade; only the central bay remains visible. Around 1850, a single bay extension was added to the north side. The cottage is 2 storeys high with 4 windows and 2 bays, featuring 2 sash windows, although only one retains its glazing bars. The entrance includes a panelled door with a cast-iron trellis porch. Additional architectural details include a string course, a parapet, and a slate roof.
