Description
Cory House is a Grade II* listed building located at 1 Northampton Street. It consists of two distinct 16th-century houses with an early 18th-century building situated between them, originally part of a carriageway. The structure has two storeys with attics and features a timber-framed and plastered exterior, topped with a tile roof. The upper storey projects out over the ground floor, which has been later faced with brick. The windows are either hung or sliding sashes with glazing bars, and all are from the 18th or 19th centuries. There are five 18th-century dormers and some internal fittings from the 18th century as well. The building belongs to and has been reconditioned by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB). Cory House is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 19 and Nos 21 to 30 on the street.
