Description

This is a range of eleven small, terraced houses dating from 1819, originally known as Downing Terrace. The houses are located on the south side of Lensfield Road. The majority of the range are constructed of gault brick with slate roofs, and feature a continuous wall arcade composed of plain brick pilasters and semi-circular brick arches. The ground floor windows have glazing bars and shutters, while the first-floor windows have segmental heads that follow the curve of the arcade arches. The doorways are grouped in pairs, set within one bay, and have reeded surrounds.

However, No. 53 was intended as a central architectural feature, but the right end of the range appears to have been destroyed or was never built. This house is three storeys high, and is stuccoed with three windows, pilasters, and a pediment. No. 43 has been altered with a modern door, and the original glazing bars have been removed from its windows.
