Description
There are three wall-mounted street lamps known as Richardson Candles located on the north side of the Mill Lane Site on Silver Street. These lamps were designed specifically for Cambridge City by Sir Albert Richardson in 1957 and manufactured by the REVO electrical company. Each lamp features a vertical, tubular lantern made of translucent glass, which houses three or four fluorescent tubes. The lantern is topped and based with simple cast iron, and it is mounted to the wall using a pair of plain metal brackets at each end, with the lower bracket embossed with the word REVO. One lamp is fixed to the north elevation of 21a Silver Street, while the other two are attached to the north elevation of the building marked ‘laboratories’ on the current Ordnance Survey map.
