Description

This is a symmetrical terrace of 1815-17, designed and built by Charles Humphrey as part of the Doll's Close development, which also includes Maid's Causeway, Short Street, and Fair Street. The terrace comprises numbers 2 to 17. It is two storeys high with basements and built of grey gault brick. A central, three-bay pedimented feature sits over numbers 9 and 10, supported by brick pilasters and featuring a timber cornice. Numbers 2 and 17 project slightly, with entrances on their return walls, while the other doorways are arranged in paired elliptical arches, except for those at numbers 9 and 10. There are 25 windows across the entire frontage; they are sash windows with glazing bars, and the ground-floor windows at either end are set in elliptically headed recesses. Most of the doors are panelled. Original interior features remain. The roof is covered in slate. Cast-iron lamp brackets with lanterns are present on numbers 6 and 13.
