Description
Old Plough House is a 15th-century hall house featuring gabled and jettied crosswings. It is constructed from timber framing with plaster and has a red plain tile roof. The building stands two storeys high and has timber casement windows, most of which are modern. There are two gabled dormers and a red brick chimney stack from the late 16th century, which has four diagonal shafts. A mantel beam inside the house is scratched with the date 1632, and there is an early 19th-century chimney at the east end. The rear of the house has 17th-century and later extensions. Inside, there are many original features, including a 16th-century inserted first floor in the hall, screen doorways, and doors at the opposite end of the hall. The roofs are supported by crown posts and collar purlins, with arch-braced tie beams.
