Description

These are a pair of semi-detached houses located on Bata Avenue, East Tilbury, built between 1930 and 1933. Designed by Vladimir Karfik and Frantizek Gahura, they were constructed by various local contractors. The houses are notable for their flat roofs and hybrid construction, featuring concrete poured in lifts of approximately one metre for the front and side walls, with brick faced concrete for the interior and rear walls. They are two storeys with a two-window range to the front, and include rectangular bays to each sitting room. Entrances are located on the side returns, each with a small window on both floors. The rear elevation has a four-window range and a shared stack on the party wall. The overall style is International Modern. Nos 2-34 (even) Bata Avenue form a group.
