Description
Herschell House is an early 19th century timber-framed and weather-boarded house, originally of two broad bays and two storeys with an attic. In the mid to late 19th century, the front of the house was extended with brickwork towards the road. Of particular interest is the original weather-boarded facade, which now faces the garden. The central entrance features a glazed panelled door flanked by two-storey canted bays. These bays contain original sash windows with glazing bars, except for the ground floor on the right-hand side where the central window has been unobtrusively altered into a French window. A mid-19th century wooden veranda with scalloped eaves runs along the ground floor. The roof is tiled with pantiles and has three dormers. Further features include fretwork and dentil parapet coping.
