Description

Old Bank House is an 18th century timber-framed and plastered house that has been altered and extended in the 19th and 20th centuries. The rear section is weatherboarded, and the house is situated on steeply sloping ground, featuring two storeys on the north side and three storeys on the south side. A later 19th century brick addition with a parapet was constructed on the east side, and a two-storey music room and library were added on the south side between 1912 and 1913.

The north front of the original house has two window ranges, while the addition has one window range, all featuring double-hung sashes with glazing bars. The ground storey includes a three-light window. The south addition boasts a large mullioned and transomed splayed bay that rises through two storeys and is fitted with leaded lights. On the east side, there is a five-panel door with the upper panel glazed, framed by a panelled architrave and corner roundels featuring lion heads. The roof is hipped and covered with slate.

Inside, there are several 18th century features, including a doorcase with a shouldered architrave and a moulded panel inscribed with "Ye Old Bank House," along with carved enrichment. The staircase has cut strings, carved spandrels, turned balusters, and a "Corinthian" newel post, as well as a mantelpiece. The music room, which is now used as a studio, includes Art Nouveau features.
