Description

This is a terrace of six mid-19th century houses. Nos. 1 and 2 are built of yellow brick, while Nos. 3 to 6 are stuccoed. The front elevation features a stucco balustraded parapet topped with ornamental urns, a modillion cornice, and a frieze. The ground floor is faced with stucco, lined to resemble ashlar. A raised stucco band runs between the first and second storeys. The houses are three storeys high, with seven canted, stuccoed bays extending through all three floors. Each bay contains a single window range. The windows are double-hung sashes with single vertical glazing bars. Windows between the bays are framed by moulded stucco architraves. The first-floor windows within the bays have shallow balconies supported by brackets and ornamented with cast iron guard rails. The doorways, now fitted with 20th-century doors, are accessed by flights of steps. A two-storey extension projects from the west end, presenting a three-window range to the west front and a single window range to the south. This extension also has a stuccoed parapet, a modillion cornice, and a frieze. Nos. 1 to 6 form a group with Nos. 1 to 11 (consec), 11A, and 12 (the Argyle Hotel) on Cliff Town Parade.
