Description
The shelter opposite Wilson Road on Clifftown Parade in Southend on Sea, Essex, is a Grade II listed structure. It features a rectangular plan and is made from timber and cast iron, topped with a zinc roof that dates from the early 21st century.
The exterior is a lightweight construction of painted timber set on a concrete plinth. It has a hipped roof supported by moulded timber corner posts, which are enhanced by foliated cast-iron brackets. Decorative ironwork adorns the eaves, and there are decorative iron braces at the base of each post. Finials are present at both ends of the roof.
Inside, the shelter contains back-to-back slatted wooden seating, separated by a clear glazed screen running along the center. Additional screens are placed between the posts at both ends, supporting smaller benches with moulded arms.
