Description
The shelter opposite no. 25 Clifftown Parade in Southend on Sea, Essex, is a Grade II listed structure. It has a rectangular plan and is made from timber and cast iron, topped with a zinc roof that dates from the early 21st century.
The exterior features a lightweight design of painted timber set on a concrete plinth. It has a hipped roof supported by moulded timber corner posts with foliated cast-iron brackets. Decorative ironwork adorns the eaves, and there are decorative iron braces at the base of each post. Finials are positioned at each end of the roof.
Inside, the shelter contains back-to-back slatted wooden seating, separated by a clear glazed screen running down the middle. Additional screens between the posts at both ends support smaller benches with moulded arms.
