Description
Fletton Towers is a large Tudor style stone house located at 1500 Queens Walk in Peterborough, built between 1841 and 1847 for W Lawrence Clerk, who was the Clerk of the Peace for the Liberty of Peterborough. The house features freestone dressings and consists of two storeys with three bays. At its center is a three-storey tower with asymmetrical corner turrets and paired chimney stacks. The exterior includes a parapet, a moulded stringcourse, and diagonal angle buttresses. The windows are three-light stone mullion transom windows, with each light divided into two, although the center light of each window is blocked. The central tower has a first-floor oriel with carved initials above a moulded four-centred arch doorway. Inside, the central hall features a timber staircase in Gothic style and painted ceilings that may date to 1864. This building was the childhood home of novelist L P Hartley.
