Description

The Manor House, dating to circa 1630-40, was likely built by the Wildebore family. Constructed from large coursed rubble with ashlar detailing, the house has a steeply pitched Collyweston stone roof. It is two storeys and an attic in height, originally with a four-window front. A gabled section is on the left, and a gabled two-storey and attic porch is on the right. The design initially intended a central porch as a focal point, balanced by a wing on the right, though this was either incomplete or has since been demolished; remnants of the base wall and a window frame suggest its former presence. The gables feature ogee shapes, ball finials at the apex and feet, and ovals at the gable tops. A central gabled dormer is also present. Windows are stone mullioned, with two, three, and four lights. The main doorway has a rusticated surround, a pediment, and a round arched opening containing a large vermiculated keyblock and a moulded impost. Moulded string courses run along the facade. A further two-storey and attic porch with a rusticated round arch and ogee-shaped gable is located on the north side. Large, rusticated chimney stacks are topped with cornices and pulvinated friezes. A late 19th-century wing extends from the rear, incorporating 19th-century stone mullion windows. Inside, original stone door frames remain, including a large arched frame with a keyblock and impost mould.
