Description

Rectory Cottage, formerly part of The Old Rectory, is an 18th-century house that was altered and extended in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble with rusticated quoins. The roofs are of baulk span Collyweston stone, with coped gable ends. A band runs along the floor level. The main part of the house has two storeys and five bays. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars, set within stone frames with small keyblocks. The ground floor features two large, early 19th-century square bay windows of ashlar with sash windows. A doorway is located on the side elevation. Ashlar chimney stacks with cornices are present. A mid-19th century addition, also of stone, extends from the rear. To the right (east) is a lower two-storey wing, also of 18th-century origin, with coursed stone, a Collyweston stone roof with gabled ends, and a three-window range featuring sashes and modern casements. An ashlar chimney stack with a cornice is present on this wing.
