Description

The Old Nursery House is a mid-17th century house located in Wothorpe. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble, with a steeply pitched Collyweston stone roof featuring gabled ends. The house is two storeys and has an attic. On the left-hand side is a 19th-century canted bay window with sash windows. The right-hand side features a three-light stone mullion window on the first floor and a recessed doorway below, covered by a stone-tiled roof porch. Two Victorian gabled dormers are present. The east gable end has three-storey stone bay windows, a gable with kneelers, and a datestone inscribed "Dover TM" and the date "1658," along with ovolo-moulded stone mullion windows. A central ashlar chimney stack with a cornice is also visible. An extension on the west end is likely from the 18th century and is built of stone rubble. A late 19th-century rear (north) wing is constructed of coursed ironstone, and an 18th-century stable wing is located to the north, built of coursed stone rubble with a stone roof and loft door.
