Description
Wansford Bridge is a Grade I listed structure located on the boundary of the Parishes of Sibson Cum Stibbington and Wansford. It was built starting in 1577 and features a fine ashlar construction over the River Nene, consisting of a total of 12 arches. The south end of the bridge was rebuilt in 1795 and includes a small round arch and a wide elliptical rusticated arch, with the date displayed in an oval panel above the keyblock. The next three arches date from 1672 to 1674, while the remaining arches are from 1577, as indicated by the initials P.If. in the parapet. The ten bays from the 16th and 17th centuries have round arches, with the 16th-century arches being stepped. Cutwaters rise between the arches to create refuges in the parapet, which features ramped coping and a stringcourse. The arches at the north end are silted up.
