Description

This is a house that incorporates shop premises, likely dating to the 17th century, with extensions and alterations made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The rear wing is timber-framed with brick infilling and has a steeply pitched roof covered in plain tiles, with gabled ends. The front range is brick, partly painted and rendered, and has a hipped roof covered in asbestos tiles. Brick stacks are located axially and to the sides.

The building's layout includes a circa 17th-century rear wing, and a front block – originally built or rebuilt in the 18th century – remodelled in the 19th century, and now housing a shop. The east front, dating from the 19th century, features a 20th-century shopfront on the ground floor and two four-pane sash windows above. The rear wing has 19th-century casement windows with glazing bars, and a brick west gable end.

Inside, the shop area has a chamfered cross-beam. The rear room of the original wing features a chamfered axial beam with step or truncated pyramid stops, now partially hidden by plaster. Surviving elements of the roof include the timber frame of the east gable end and a closed truss, the collar and lower part of the principals in the west gable end, with visible mortices, likely for wind braces. The purlins and common rafters have been replaced.
