Description

Grove House is a late 17th century brick house located on the east side of High Street North. It has two storeys and is covered in heavy stucco. The building features late 18th century and late 19th century alterations. The roof is very steeply pitched and gabled, with early tiles on the left side and brown tiles on the right, creating a varying ridge line. The roof includes a long high central section and two shorter end sections of unequal length, with a valley at the north end.

The east front, facing the park, has a deep parapet and cornice, along with six widely spaced dormers. In the center, there is a two-storey bay with three windows and a very steep hipped roof. On both sides of the bay, there are six windows on the second storey. To the north of the bay, there is a light pedimented Doric doorcase made of wood and three windows, while to the south of the bay, there is a plain doorway. The windows are sash, with some being early single hung, set in wide wooden cases.

The interior of Grove House has been significantly altered, but many minor details from the 17th century have survived. The road front at the north end features a symmetrical five-window facade in a late 19th century Classical style, characterized by heavy detailing.
