Description
Avenue House is a house dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It features a timber-framed structure with red brick infill and has a half-hipped roof, with slates on the front slope and clay tiles on the rear slope. The house has a three-room plan and is two storeys high with attics.
On the southeast elevation, both the ground and first floors have three three-light casements with glazing bars. The attic includes three box dormers, each with two-light casements that also have glazing bars. There is a doorway situated between the two right-hand windows, which is enclosed by a mid-19th century porch. A glazed walkway or conservatory leads to a single-storey addition from the right-hand end of the house. This 19th-century extension is made of colourwashed brick and features a slate roof and sash windows.
The main block has its front door located at the right gable end, which is a plank door beneath a moulded cut bracketed cornice hood. The rear elevation has red brick chimney stacks and additional 19th-century brick additions.
