Description

The garden walls and gateway are mid-18th century and belong to Aspley House. The red brick walls border the road for approximately 60 metres, turning at the north end to continue for a further 80 metres. They reach a maximum height of around 3 metres. Stone coped rectangular piers mark the corners. The upper half of the wall is recessed, with pilaster strips projecting to align with the lower part. A gateway is positioned in the centre of the section bordering the road, divided into three bays by pilaster strips. The central bay features a small round-headed archway with a 20th-century wrought iron gate; the outer bays have smaller, round-arched recessed panels. The outer piers have moulded stone cornices and ball finials. Walls flanking the gateway rise to full height in three stages, with short stretches of sloping wall between.
