Description
The Ragged Staff is a house that was formerly an inn, dating back to the 16th century and reworked in the 19th century. It features timber framed construction, with part of the east elevation rebuilt. The exterior is colourwashed roughcast with applied mock timber framing on the front. The roof is covered in clay tiles and the building has an L-plan layout, consisting of two storeys and a single-storey lean-to addition at the rear of the main block.
The front of the building has a left-hand gable with a canted bay that includes sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor, and a jettied first floor with another sash window. The main block has a similar canted bay on the right side of the ground floor, with a sash window to the left and two three-light casements on the first floor. There is a six-panel door set in a moulded surround topped with a gabled hood. The building features yellow brick double ridge stacks on both blocks, which serve back-to-back track hearths, and the gables are adorned with pierced wavy-edged bargeboards.
