Description

The Methodist Church in Eaton Bray was built in 1795, with enlargements made in 1806 and 1829, and improvements in 1864, as noted on datestones. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with stuccoed dressings, and the returns are rendered. The roof is made of Welsh slate. The building is two storeys high and has a three by three bay layout, with a later 19th-century addition at the rear.

On the west elevation, there is a plinth and giant end pilasters that are linked by an eaves cornice. The openings are round-arched, featuring architraves with imposts and moulded archivolts. The doorways have keystones, while the windows have shouldered jambs and projecting sills. The end entrances include panelled doors and fanlights, and below the central ground-floor window, there is a marble memorial for the First World War. A date plaque is located above the central first-floor window, and the roof is hipped.

The returns feature full-height round-arched architraves that enclose the ground and first-floor windows. Inside, there is a gallery around three sides supported by slender columns with a panelled front. The interior also includes wall panelling, panelled doors, and panelled box piers from 1864. The roof is supported by braced king-post trusses and has 1864 board underdrawing. There is a wall monument dedicated to James Bottoms, who died in 1817, and his wife, who died in 1839.
