Description
The Church of St Mary, located on Church Lane in Eaton Bray, is a Grade I listed building. It has a very simple exterior made of ashlar Totternhoe stone. Inside, there are impressive Early English arcades featuring five bays with stiff-leaf capitals. The chancel arch dates from the same period, although the chancel itself appears to have been rebuilt in the 15th century. The church has a simple west tower topped with a spike and includes Perpendicular windows. There are shallow transepts, and the south door is adorned with fine mid-13th century iron scrollwork. Notable interior features include a tomb chest for Lady Bray, who died in 1558, along with her eleven children, and a brass inscription commemorating Lord Bray, who died in 1539, as well as another inscription referring to their daughter, Jane.
