Description
The stable at Poplar Farm is a building dating from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It features a timber-framed structure clad in weatherboarding, resting on a brick plinth, and has a roof covered in asbestos sheeting. The stable includes wooden doors, openings for the hayloft, and windows with ventilating shutters on the ground floor. Inside, there are six bays, three of which are used for stabling. The wall frame has curved tension braces at the ends and diagonal braces on the sides. While the original queen posts remain, the through purlins and rafters date from the 19th century. The stable retains many original 19th-century fittings, including wooden stall partitions, mangers, saddle brackets, a loose box, wooden feeding boxes, and brick floors.
