Description
The sundial, located approximately 270 meters south of Wrest Park House, is made of marble. It features an octagonal, carved and moulded marble pedestal with a simple octagonal moulded base. The die of the sundial swells from the bottom and is decorated with acanthus leaves that curl over at the top. Four ribbon ties are carved in relief, from which swags of flowers are suspended. At the top of the die, there is a lip and moulding, along with a wide cap that sits above, decorated on the underside with carved acanthus leaf detail that extends to the corners of the octagon. A narrow drip is positioned above, to which a separate thin piece of marble, likely added later, is attached, into which the dial is set.
The plate, dial, and gnomon are a fibreglass copy of the original. Notably, the fine detailing at the end of the gnomon includes corbel detail, which is also found on another sundial by Henry Wynne that was formerly located at Staunton Harold, Leicestershire.
