Description

Boxhedge House, formerly Boxhedge Farmhouse, is a house that dates back to the 17th century, likely reusing earlier timbers, and was reworked in the 18th century. It features a substantial timber-framed structure with red brick infill and clay tile roofs. The house is arranged in an L-plan, with the south wing having two storeys and attics, while the northeast wing is one storey with attics and includes a lean-to block within the angle.

The south elevation has a triple-gabled design, with shallow-pitched roofs that appear to be a later alteration. The right-hand gable is slightly lower and retains a steeper pitch on the outer side. On the ground floor, there are three 2-light casement windows of varying sizes. The first floor of the left-hand part has two sash windows and one single light, while the attic of the right-hand bay features a 3-light casement. Each of the two left-hand gables has a single light window at the apex, and all windows have glazing bars. There is a doorway next to the right-hand bay, which consists of a six-panel door in a simply moulded architrave, topped with a flat cornice hood supported by cut brackets. This entrance aligns with a back-to-back hearth that creates a lobby entrance. The hearth is served by a red brick multiple ridge stack with a moulded cap. The other elevations display a variety of windows, mostly casements with glazing bars, and the east elevation includes two gabled dormers.

Inside, the main block's ground floor room retains 18th-century panelling on the upper part of the walls, with dados made from imported panelling. There are also 18th-century corner shelves featuring an elliptical arched head and reeded surround.
