Description

North Lodge and the adjoining screen at the Silsoe entrance to Wrest Park is a 19th-century building constructed from rendered brick and topped with a slated mansard roof. It features a small square plan with one storey and attics above a basement, designed alongside South Lodge to mark the main entrance to Wrest Park.

The exterior showcases rusticated quoins, a moulded eaves cornice, and a low rendered brick chimney at the center of the roof. Each elevation has a slightly projecting central bay. The west and east elevations each include a central casement window with glazing bars, a wrought-iron balconette, and a decorative keystone above the segmental head of the opening. The south elevation features a pair of part-glazed double doors adorned with a coat of arms on the keystone of the arched opening. The attic storey has a segmental-headed dormer window on each elevation, with the south elevation's window topped by a triangular pediment.

Inside, the lodge has been altered to include a kitchen in the basement but still retains much of the original layout. Notable features include panelled doors, a panelled stair screen, and original dog grates. The basement has an arched recess that is now part of the modern kitchen and a vaulted cellar passage.

Attached to the south-west corner of the lodge is a wrought iron screen, approximately 5 meters long and 2 meters high. This screen is set on a low T-shaped plinth and, while plain in design, ends at a square openwork pier with decorative panels and a finial. At the rear of the lodge, there is an attached stone boundary wall that extends from the north-east corner, featuring a pair of plain piers flanking a shallow arch-headed doorway to the rear yard at the south end, and a matching pair of piers at the north end. Additionally, there is a low garden outbuilding at the rear with a tile-covered hipped roof.
